Steps to Eternal Life

Lesson Two

Its Fatal

Several years ago a young housewife felt a slight pain in her abdomen. She thought something she had eaten had caused it. She took some medicine and forgot about it. Nothing to worry about. In the next few months the pain returned periodically. She reasoned that something she was eating must be disagreeing with her. So she eliminated certain items from her diet. This seemed to help somewhat. As months passed, the pains occurred more severely and more frequently. She finally mentioned her trouble to her husband, and he urged her to see a doctor. She was afraid of doctors and refused to make an appointment. But as the pain became almost constant and she began to lose weight, her husband made the appointment for her. She refused to go. By this time she feared that the pains might be connected with cancer. If this were true, she did not want to know it. Her friends gave her advice as to what to eat and what to do. Each person seemed to have a new cure, but all the time her illness continued to take its toll. Finally one night when she was too ill to protest, her husband rushed her to the hospital. The doctor performed an operation and sent the woman home to die. The ailment was indeed cancer. If it had been caught when first noticed, it could probably have been stopped. But the delay proved fatal. The doctor would have helped her. But he could do nothing unless she recognized that she needed his help and came to him.
What a picture of the sinner and the Great Physician! He stands by our side ready to give just the help needed. But many of us will die from the dread cancer of sin that is now eating away our souls because we do not recognize our true condition or because we are unwilling to let God do what He longs to do.
In this study, let us find out about this fatal malady which will destroy all of us unless we accept the help that God offers.
THE BIBLE SAYS

12.What is the cancer of sin called? 1 John 3:4.
THE BIBLE SAYS

NOTE: In 1 John 5:17 we read, “All wrongdoing is sin.” Sin can simply be defined as disobedience to God and His revealed will.

13.How many of us human beings have sinned? Romans 3:23.
THE BIBLE SAYS

14.What did man's sin bring into the world? Romans 5:12.
THE BIBLE SAYS

NOTE: The Bible says that sin spread to the whole race because all of us have sinned. We willingly followed Adam in his rebellion against God

15.What is the final wage of sin? Romans 6:23.
THE BIBLE SAYS

NOTE: This is the second death outside of the kingdom of God. See Revelation 20:14, 15. Those who do not accept God's gift of salvation will receive their punishment at that time.

16.How many of us do what is right by nature? Romans 3:10-18.
THE BIBLE SAYS

NOTE: Not one of us is good naturally. We have allowed our sins to separate us from God. Isaiah 59:2 says: It is because of your sins that he doesn't hear you. It is your sins that separate you from God when you try to worship him.

17.How many of God's commands must we break to make us guilty of sin? James 2:10-12.
THE BIBLE SAYS

18.What, besides the actual act, does God judge as sin? Matthew 5:21, 22, 27, 28.
THE BIBLE SAYS

THE BIBLE SAYS

22.Where did Paul find forgiveness and salvation? Romans 7:25.
THE BIBLE SAYS

NOTE: God's gift of eternal life comes by accepting His Son as the sacrifice He has provided. “God's free gift is eternal life in union with Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23.

23.How only is it possible to be healed from sin? 1 Peter 2:24,25.
THE BIBLE SAYS

24.What will God do with our sins when we accept His promise and confess? 1 John 1:9.
THE BIBLE SAYS

25.What makes us clean from sin? 1 John 1:7.
THE BIBLE SAYS

26.How willing is God to save and forgive the worst sinner? 2 Peter 3:9.
THE BIBLE SAYS

What a message of hope! Even though we are sinners and doomed to die not only the natural death (the first death) on earth, but also the death (the second death) of eternal separation from life and God --we now have hope. We have discovered that God loves us so much that He gave His only-begotten Son that we need not die this death (the second death) of eternal separation. If we want to, we can live with Him throughout eternity. How comforting to know that God is able to save and forgive all who come to Him and accept the healing He provides. With this provision made for him, why would any person die? Christ pictured how anxious God is to save man when He told the parable of the lost sheep.
One time many tax collectors and outcasts came to listen to Jesus. The Pharisees and the teachers of the law started grumbling. "This Man welcomes outcasts and even eats with them!" So Jesus told them this parable: Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them -- What does he do? He leaves the other ninety-nine sheep in the pasture and goes looking for the one that got lost until he finds it. When he finds it, he is so happy that he puts it on his shoulders, and carries it back home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together, and says to them, “I am so happy I found my lost sheep. Let us celebrate!” In the same way, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine respectable people who do not need to repent. Luke 15:1-7.
Do you feel like that lost sheep? Are you tired of wandering and worrying? Would you like to know that your sins are forgiven, and that you have been saved from your sins? Then reach out and receive the gift that God offers, and you can have this assurance and peace.
Would you like to express yourself by indicating you determination?

I recognize that I am a sinner separated from God.
I acknowledge that I cannot save myself.
I long for God to forgive and save me.
